We have a great chapter with lots of activities for everyone!

Meetings are held Wednesdays at the Ajax Cricket Club, 615 Monarch Ave., Ajax,  ON

Meetings are open to all members and guests (children are welcome).  It’s a great opportunity to hear about and sign up for events, meet new people, and contribute any ideas you might have.

Many of our members meet at Tim Horton’s on Harwood South after the meeting for some refreshments and conversation.

***Change to our weekly Wednesday meetings, and some explanation as to what to expect!***

It has been brought to my attention that people may not know exactly what is going on, or what to expect from a weekly Wednesday Meeting.  Here is a look at what has been going on, and where we are looking to move to going forward, as well as a little information as to what to expect.

***Going forward***

  • 1st Wednesday of the month – Executive Meeting (7:00pm – 8:00pm)

At this time the directors are presenting their ideas to the other directors, to get feedback and set dates to ensure there is as little overlapping as possible.  It is also at this time that motions are put forward for any subsidies for such events.  The directors then vote to decide whether or not the subsidy will be provided.  We also discuss things that are happening at other chapters, conventions that might be coming up, the financial reports are brought forward, as well as any other topics pertaining to OPFA.

  • 3rd Wednesday’s of the month – FAMILY POTLUCK (6:30pm)

Going forward we will be having a themed potluck on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at the Ajax Cricket Club.  Please be sure to check your communications/ newsletters/ facebook/ meetup/ calendars for theme of the month.  You can sign up by contacting Tami Townsend by email tami.townsend@hotail.com  or text 647-292-1599.

October’s Adult Activity will be Saturday, October 14th @ Bowmanville Applefest in Historic Downtown Bowmanville, the Saturday following Thanksgiving.  This is a FREE adult and family event.  Bring the kids along!

This tremendously popular annual street festival celebrates all things apple.  Four city blocks become a showcase for our many local apple growers who proudly offer up a wide variety of fresh picked apples and other goodies.   You’ll also find fresh-pressed apple cider, homemade apple pies and crisps, candy and carmel apples, cider donuts, and so much more.

Unique handmade, high quality crafts and food products can be found in several large marquee tents and booths lining the street.    There are plenty of things for the children to see and do too, including carnival rides, jumping castles, pony rides, and more.  If you plan on attending, please RSVP by 6pm Monday, October 9th to Sonya (sonyahardman@gmail.com or 905-440-5227) to let her know.

** Please note: If less than 4 people RSVP for the monthly adult activity then it will be cancelled.  Come out and support your Chapter*

Hi there normally my kids and I do volunteer work on Wednesdays . This will be finishing at the end of April. Do you have family activities for kids who are 18 and 16 and how do I find out about the adult only activities in the Ajax Pickering chapter. Thanks

I was a member years ago, then was in a relationship. I have started going the dances as often as I can for the last two years. How can I become a member again. I was a member at the Co-Hope Chapter and on the board as Treasurer, which closed years ago. Thank you and I look forward to the November Dance. Mary

    Hi Janice,

I’m sorry I missed replying to your question before New Year’s Eve. There was not, in fact, any chapter event scheduled for New Years so you did not miss anything. We are hosting our monthly dance at the Pickering Recreation Complex on January 10th and it will be a “New Year” theme. I would be pleased to email you a copy of our January newsletter, which contains information for prospective members on Page 3 and a Membership Form on Page 8. I am a single mom of 1 child and have found this group to be FANTASTIC! Always so many things to do and I have made some fantastic friends! There are many advantages to Chapter Membership, including subsidized adult and child/youth activities, picnics potlucks and holiday socials, and reduced ticket prices for admission to the monthly dances. You are welcome to come out to a meeting anytime to find out more. We meet at the Ajax Cricket Club on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7pm. The 3rd and 4th Wednesdays of the month are reserved for events, and the 1st Wednesday of the month is when the Executive meets.

I look forward to meeting you in person!

My fiancé and I are interested in going to your dance this weekend but I had some questions. 1- is there a bar? 2 she has numerous allegies, would it be ok to bring a microwaveable premade meal for her (so much easier on your cooks trust me , no sugar, no Gluten, no citrus fruits etc…) and is there a contact #? Is it limited to single parents?

Hi Scott. Sorry for the delay in my reply, and I hope you were able to make it out to the dance. For benefit of future events I will answer your questions:
    1) Yes, there is a cash bar at every OPFA dance and the drink prices are VERY reasonable.
    2) Our dances are open to everyone. You DO NOT have to be a single parent to attend. We have many couples who come, as well as single people. Some have kids – some don’t.
    3) I would not think it is a problem for your fiancé to bring her own meal if she has food allergies. However, I recommend something that doesn’t require heating, if possible. Our dances are run by a small number of volunteers and they get very busy around the meal time trying to prep and put out all the food and keep everything topped up. It’s just a bit hectic for them so if possible to avoid the need to microwave that would be appreciated.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Millie,
Sorry for the delayed reply to your inquiry. You are welcome to attend one of our Chapter BBQ’s to learn more about membership and meet some other members. Our next Ajax-Pickering Chapter BBQ is September 16th at 6:30pm at the Ajax Cricket Club. Please visit our Chapter webpage for more information on this and other upcoming events. New and prospective members are welcome to attend a meeting to learn more.

I hope to meet you in person soon,
    Sonya Hardman – Publicity Coordinator

Just saw your association in the local paper. I’m not a single parent, but I was wondering if I can donate baby and toddler items and toys to any parents in need.
